Michael CarmanPro Bono Project Volunteer Of The Month November 2013

Michael Carman of Kunin & Carman

Michael came to Las Vegas from Denver in 2000 after obtaining a Judicial Clerkship with the Honorable T. Arthur Ritchie, Jr. He joined Kunin & Carman in 2003 to practice family law and began volunteering with the Pro Bono Project in 2010.

Michael credits the start of his and the firm’s pro bono work to his colleague, Brian Blackham, who brought a passion for pro bono work to Kunin & Carman. Since 2010 the firm has represented numerous clients through the Pro Bono Project and is a past winner of the Lied Award for Most Cases Taken by a Law Firm. Michael enjoys pro bono work because the clients are amazing and so appreciative. He finds that being able to provide assistance to clients who truly need the help, clients who would otherwise go without representation, makes every case so meaningful.

We are recognizing Michael not for the number of clients he has represented but for his dedication to one client in particular. Michael accepted the client in 2011 through the Pro Bono Project to handle a custody matter but the case soon turned into much more. His client recently contacted Legal Aid Center to express her gratitude. She would like to thank him for going above and beyond in his representation. When her son revealed that he was sexually abused and the case turned criminal, Michael stepped in to represent her completely. He assisted her in obtaining five protection orders while also supporting her through cases in juvenile court and family court. She praised him as a true advocate for families and children.

For his extraordinary service to this client and for embracing a culture of pro bono service at Kunin & Carman, we commend Michael and honor him as our November Volunteer of the Month.

Congratulations Mike!
