Volunteer of the Month – July 2024

Brooke Holmes, Brownstein Hyatt Farber Shreck

Brooke is no stranger to the Las Vegas community. Receiving her B.A. from UNLV in 2012 and graduating, magna cum laude, UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law in 2016. Brooke’s practice includes representing clients through various stages of a real estate transaction, including, but not limited to, land use, acquisition, disposition, development/redevelopment, leasing for commercial, industrial, office, and mixed-use and hospitality real estate projects. Brooke is a prominent figure within the commercial real estate sector in Las Vegas. Serving as counsel to various prominent developers, owners, investors, landlords, tenants and institutional clients, including some of Nevada’s most distinguished companies. Her work has garnered Vegas Inc Top Lawyers three separate times, the most recent being in 2024.

As an attorney at Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schrek, Brooke stated Brownstein has been dedicated to providing pro bono services with Legal Aid since 2012, contributing over 13,000 pro bono hours. Brownstein is recognized as a leading firm in Legal Aid’s annual Associates Challenge, which is led by their associates. The firm is dedicated to their continued work in pro bono and has contributed financially for the benefit of LACSN’s clients.

Having participated in numerous Ask-A-Lawyer events, Brooke is no stranger to pro bono work. When asked why she does pro bono, Brooke said that the work makes a difference for those that truly need it. She continued saying that being able to use her experience and expertise, while it may feel like a small contribution, makes a huge impact on someone else. That it is rewarding to receive appreciation from those who are distraught for the little help or small piece of legal advice she is able to provide.

In the last few months, Brooke recalls being able to provide simple legal advice to those facing eviction, habitability condition, and unlawful actions by their landlords. Recounting that whilst participating in a 15 minute Ask-A-Lawyer event, a participant was facing eviction due to a landlord imposing improper fees, assessing late charges on those fees, and rejecting any partial payment because the tenant declined to pay the fees assessed. Brooke was able to discuss with the participant what their rights were, what remedies they may be able to employ, the proper steps to take, what notices to provide in order to properly dispute the charges, and where to find said forms.

For her dedication and commitment to pro bono, we honor Brooke as our July 2024 Volunteer of the Month
