Volunteer of the Month – August 2024
Jonathan S. Chung, Hutchison & Steffen, PLLC
Jonathan grew up in the Las Vegas community, receiving his B.A. in International Relations from the University of California, Irvine in 2011. After graduating, he worked at Nevada Legal Services and decided to pursue a law degree. He applied to UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law as a Public Interest Fellow in 2014, was accepted, and graduated in 2017.
During his time at Nevada Legal Services, Jonathan assisted low income taxpayers with offers in compromises and veterans with applying for their benefits with the VA system. When he went to law school he continued to work in pro bono by volunteering as an educational surrogate, assisting at tenant’s right clinics, and record sealing.
Currently, Jonathan works at Hutchinson & Steffen as a Senior Associate. Jonathan also is the Treasurer of the Asian American Advocacy Clinic and a member of the Association for Legal Excellence. Since graduating he has sought ways to give back to the community that he’s called home for the last 30 years. Jonathan has volunteered with organizations such as Nevada Legal Services, Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, and the Federal Public Defenders. At Hutchison & Steffen, Jonathan continues to volunteer with pro bono and so does the firm. Hutchison & Steffen started to receive cases from Legal Aid back in 2003, and have taken on 272 cases since then. When asked about a memorable case he’s taken on, Jonathan mentioned a client he was able to assist with a divorce. He said it made his day to be able to call the client and let her know that the divorce decree was signed and finalized. She was extremely appreciative of his work.
Jonathan has continued to volunteer with the Ask-A-Lawyer program at least once a month and has been a crucial volunteer in helping those in need with navigating the Family Law court.
For his dedication and commitment to pro bono, we honor Jonathan as our August 2024 Volunteer of the Month
