Patrick Kang

Patrick Kang and his associates at ACE Law Group are longstanding participants in our pro bono initiatives at the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada. For over a decade, Mr. Kang has been advocating for neglected and vulnerable children under our Children’s Attorney’s Project (CAP) program.

Since the beginning of this year, Mr. Kang's firm has rapidly accelerated the number of pro bono CAP cases represented in its practice. Patrick Kang cites a recent event held by the Asian Bar Association as igniting his ‘spark’ for increasing his pro bono work: “at the Asian Bar mixer last year Justice Lee spoke about her experience doing pro bono work and how important that was and that stuck with me. That evening we made a promise to get back to doing more serious pro bono work.” Mr. Kang has continued to honor this commitment. Through a collaborative team effort consisting of diligent support staff and fiercely dedicated attorneys, Ace Law Group has taken on over ten CAP clients this year alone. Mr. Kang’s commitment extends beyond a simple numbers game. He and his associates can be seen actively engaging in court proceedings with tenacity, advocating for their clients even when the path seems difficult.

Patrick Kang and his associates confront challenging cases steadfastly, never shying away even in the most demanding circumstances. In fact, they make it their mission to take on cases that require emotional and intellectual grit. These cases, due to their complexity, would likely otherwise remain unrepresented. For instance, when asked to recount a memorable case, Mr. Kang reflected on his experience advocating for a toddler who had been sexually assaulted by a relative. The perpetrator of this sexual assault was not convicted, and would attend court hearings in an attempt to regain contact with this susceptible toddler. Mr. Kang reflects, “it gave us a chance to really advocate for our client. For the first time, we felt like we could use our litigation skills in these pro bono cases effectively when we had an opportunity to question and subsequently negotiate a deal for our client.” The child now happily resides with a safe caregiver in a new home, something Mr. Kang states is a particularly rewarding accomplishment: “although that experience personally left me sad and angry, when I look back now I realize how rewarding it was to deliver this kind of justice for a little girl who could not speak for herself.” As a father, Mr. Kang states that these CAP cases resonate deeply with him and that he will continue to apply both himself and his firm’s resources to providing these deserving children a powerful voice in the courtroom.

It is for these reasons that we award Patrick Kang with Volunteer of the Month for April of 2025.
